MSC: global foreign-trade service desk

In a global maritime transport operation with multiple ports, routes, and stakeholders, we structured a service desk around the logistics journey to bring traceability, context, and standardization to service operations.

Starting point

Service in foreign trade involved multiple ports, routes, shipment stages, and stakeholders. That complexity made each request highly dependent on context, while the lack of standardization increased manual consultation, response variation, and difficulty tracking demand progress.

How we worked

We designed a service desk oriented around the logistics journey. Requests began to be classified by type, shipment stage, port, and criticality. We also structured automated routing, operational macros, and dashboards to give the team immediate context and give management a more reliable view of the operation.

Impact delivered

The operation gained standardization without losing flexibility for exceptions. Response time for shipment status fell by 52%, 76% of requests began arriving with automated context, and 98.9% of tickets were classified correctly. Operational productivity increased by 31%.

Operational reading of the case

In global operations, context is part of the answer itself. The project organized service according to the real logic of the logistics journey so each request would arrive with more information, prioritization criteria, and traceability. That reduced the weight of manual consultation and gave the team a shared operational language. The gain was standardization without rigidity: more consistency for routine work and more capacity to handle the exceptions of foreign trade.
